The 39 Batkin Road building was designed for a rest home providing hospital care and required more strict fire protection than other types of buildings. These included a fire alarm system, smoke detectors, sprinklers, fire doors, fire resistant paint and more. Many specialised designs were also implemented to meet the requirements of hospital care and increase ease-of-use for the elderly and disabled. These consisted of personnel lifts, dumbwaiters, a broadcasting system, balustrades along the corridors and sensors & call bells for 40 rooms. Orient Construction was the main contractor for this project and was responsible for ensuring every details are met with high standards.
